Symbols as a measure of reality
Symbols are always around us, money, communication, even society itself can be considered a symbol. They consist of a very big part of our lives, not just by being there but as a way of expression, of showing the things we can consider abstract in a visual way. Symbols are made by us and make us. They are really precious to us but we don’t even notice. We don’t think about them often nor consider them, we are usually trying to get away from them or ignoring. We take them for granted. This is why we miss somethings, we miss the way symbols affect us, how they can change our perspective on the world. For example, the symbol of dollars is a great example, who doesn’t want to earn in dollars rather than in pesos? Even if it is the same amount the symbol and its strength are the reason why people prefer this. The strength and effects of symbols are all around us, all we need is to open our eyes and mind in order to see them.
Even if nature we can find these symbols, they make a part of reality, a reality we need to acknowledge. And in order to acknowledge it, we need to understand it and how symbols can represent it. That’s the purpose of this exhibition, to understand reality and the way it can be represented by symbols. Nature, humanity, god, all these things can be expressed by symbols and henceforth need to understand in relation to them, symbols are not just made to represent objects, entities, or ways of knowing, they are also, and most importantly, a measure for reality.
Title: The constant flow of time
Date: January 2020
Technique: Drawing
Dimensions: 35 x 50
Time is a concept that is in constant flow. Even if we sleep, even if we think, no matter what, time seems to continue its flow. However what is affected by it doesn’t seem to be destroyed, it seems like it rebuilds, even after time has decided its death. For that, the work uses a lot of symbols. First, the clock, in the middle of it rests the symbol of the Egyptian god of time. As the symbol inside it is Egyptian, therefore the numbers that are around it are also written on Egyptian signs. The chosen animal to represent this cycle or flow is the butterfly, the monarch butterfly which can be seen on the design of the wings. The monarch butterfly lives 1 exact year. In order to show the progress of this one year, a flower was put, which deteriorates as seasons continue to follow.
Title: Humanity, the focus?
Date: October 2018
Technique: Drawing
Dimensions: 35 x 50
This work is a reinterpretation of two cathedrals. The two cathedrals used were: one from the renaissance and the other from the gothic period which can be seen on the architectonic features that both buildings have. The circle which separates both cathedrals consist of words which means human in other languages. This circle represents the relationships between the cathedrals and the concept of a human being. The circle surrounds the gothic cathedral, in fact, it isn’t part of that cathedral as gothic art focuses on god, not on humans. On the other hand, the Renaissance cathedral, in which the center is now the circle, focuses on the concept of humanity as its main concept.
Title: Emptiness of the news
Date: April 2019
Technique: Sculpture
Dimensions: Variable
The work itself is a representation of the lack of depth that a person made up of news has. This is shown by the use of newspapers and the big empty circle where it should be the face of the person. A person who only believes in what others tell him (news) is empty as he is only made up and supported by news which can be fake, he doesn't create an opinion nor criteria and therefore is empty.

Title: Figure Ouroboros
Date: November 2019
Technique: Digital Drawing
Dimensions:35 x 50
This work is built upon symbols. Itself represents the cycle that the geometrical and the organic figures have. The geometrical figures form organic figures. That’s why at half of the snake the geometrical figures become organic ones, however, that also happens the other way around. When the head of the snake bites its tail, it returns to geometrical figures as the organic figures can be decomposed on geometrical ones, which was first? that’s the question. The snake symbolizes an Ouroboros which was a greek symbol for an infinite cycle. As the organic figures are present in nature, the color that best shows this relationship is green. However, this relationship is shown on nature but present in every dimension, therefore the use of the color that the combination of all the rest, because of that the background is white.
